Japanese text often contains mixture of 1-byte and 2-byte characters, and this can become problematic… especially when formatting for database.
Luckily, a developer at Studio Ousia (https://github.com/studio-ousia/mojimoji) provides us a nice & easy-to-implement solution. Kudos!! 🙂
